A commissioned painting for Renate, my father’s life partner, who passed away in 2015. She wanted to remember him with this subject. It’s funny because she doesn’t know, but when I was a child, we had a small, brightly colored wooden boat called “Caponiello,” and sometimes my father and I would go fishing. One of the most beautiful and vivid memories from my early childhood was catching a scorpionfish, which in my memory looked exactly like this one.
